Meet The Team

Richard Katzman
Managing Director

With over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, business owner, turnaround specialist, and crisis manager, Richard has the breadth and depth of experience needed to quickly understand an entrepreneur’s business to develop a suitable solution. Richard’s skills include operational restructuring, strategic planning, management consulting and guiding family businesses though challenging times.

As Managing Director and CEO of On Call Leadership, Richard has brought success to multiple turnaround projects through his expertise and depth of experience. Most notably, Richard acted as Interim CEO for Process Solutions Inc., a specialty chemical manufacturer. There he developed and implemented an operational restructuring in preparation for selling the company. Richard also acted as Interim CEO of RSI Inc., a scrap metal recycling facility, where he led the company out of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and prepared the company for a smooth transition into long term success.

Richard began his business career working for The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). There he researched training institutions and colleges in Africa for designation as “Centers Of Excellence.” He then worked his way up to hold several leadership positions at major international leather manufacturers, including President of Bob Kat Leather, and Sales Director at Travel Leather Inc. At Bob Kat Leather, Richard led the company through a shifting global economy. As domestic production of leather dwindled, Richard converted Bob Kat to an export company; the business remained profitable. Using his comprehensive knowledge of the leather business and manufacturing, Richard successfully led negotiations to sell Bob Kat Leather to a competitor in a multimillion-dollar sale. Sales double in less than three years under Richard’s leadership of the sales division at Travel Leather, Richard then decided to concentrate on his expertise of turnaround and crisis management, thus founding On Call Leadership.

Richard was a keynote speaker for the Small Business Association for his work in turnaround management and was a featured guest lecturer at Marion Court College where he discussed “How and Why to Write a Business Plan.” He is a past board member for the Peabody Leather Museum and guest speaker on the topic of the history of the leather industry in the North Shore. In his free time, Richard enjoys playing golf, rooting for the Patriots and spending time with his wife, children and dog.

Initially, he worked at a major New England based bank as a commercial lender and developed a specialty providing asset-based loans to companies that didn’t qualify for traditional financing. Then, after six years, he established a financial advisory firm which focused on arranging both conventional and government sponsored loans – along with the financial forecasting required to support those efforts. After several years, Gerry purchased 50 percent interest in a client business that provided short-term loans to real estate developers that were not able to obtain bank financing. Together with his partner, he built a business that was eventually backed by four commercial banks and two equity investors. After several years, he successfully sold his interest and returned to consulting. Building on this, he developed into a well-known “turnaround” expert. Eventually, along with a partner, he built a practice that expanded into the entire Eastern half of the US. In 2000, the company merged with the largest New England based CPA firm. In 2007 he returned to his roots and reestablished Pathway Advisors, a “boutique” consulting practice.

Over his career, Gerry has also been an active speaker, teacher, and writer. Gerry has been featured in numerous publications including Family Business Magazine and The Journal of Corporate Renewal.
